Body Blitz Spa, West location
Today my friend and I visited Body Blitz spa on 471 Adelaide Street West, Toronto, ON.
This spa was recommended to me by a friend. She described her experience as a very positive one and we decided to give it a try. My friend and I decided to book a body scrub as a treat to ourselves.
I called about 2 weeks in advance and was very surprised to learn that spa treatment sessions were pretty much booked a month ahead. Likely for us the receptionist found 2 spots on the day we wanted and booked them for us. She told us that she booked us for sweet ginger and milk glow treatment as it was the only treatment available. It sounded very nice and promising, we went ahead and booked it.
You can visit for therapeutic waters only without any spa treatments. In this case you cannot make a reservation, it is drop in only and spa could be full and you might be asked to wait until some people leave. I was told that the busiest time is from 11 am to 2 pm.
What does the spa offer?
1. Therapeutic waters. There are 3 pools at the spa. One, the largest one, offers dead sea salt pool. The water is at the very comfortable temperature; there are also powerful jets around the pool thus making this pool somewhat a giant jacuzzi . There is also small pool with epsom salts in it. It is very warm, up to 104 degrees F. It supposed to detoxify and make your skin very smooth and soft. There is also a small cold pool (about 60 degrees F) and it is supposed to cool you off after sauna or/and warmer pools.
2. Dry sauna (fits about 8 people).
3. Steam sauna with eucalyptus. It became my favourite spot, I loved eucalyptus smell. It also relieved chest congestions that I had from earlier cold.
4. Different spa treatments: body scrub, massages, etc.
It is women only spa and you can go any way you want: naked, topless, bikini or full bedding suit. Spa provides you with everything from hair bands to robs, towels, slippers, shampoos, lotions and conditioners. There is also a vanity with hair dryers, and other necessities: spray deodorant, hair gel, cotton pads and hair brushes.
You can order healthy teas or smoothies at the cost from $ 3 to $7.50 respectively.
Both saunas are quite zones and no talking is allowed (unfortunately, this policy was not followed by some attendees and some ladies were pretty loud…oh, well, you can not have everything perfect I suppose).
Spa is very clean, cozy, and simply awesome. Personnel is very friendly and supportive. If you have a treatment booked, you are asked to arrive 2.5 hours before it so you can enjoy the waters first. If you just go for the waters and saunas, then you are there for 3 hours. You can ask for as many fresh towels as you need and can replace your wet one at any time.
Body treatment was amazing. I was brought to a small room and asked to put on disposable thongs. Then I lied down on a table with latex free covering (once I had a body scrub at some other spa and table cover was made of latex and I had a horrible rash after the treatment). There is an overhead warming lamps which keep you warm and comfortable even though you are practically naked. A spa therapist was so friendly and welcoming I did not feel uncomfortable even for a second. She applied some body wash and rubbed it a bit into my skin. Then she applied quite intense body scrub removing dead skin and opening up the pores. Then she pored hot but yet very comfortable water with some lotion in it over my body (the smell was so delicious). Then she made me turn over and repeated the procedure at the front. The she washed all products off, dried me and asked me to sit in a chair for a moment. She quickly cleaned and dried the table and assisted me back to it. And then it was time for massage. One hour flew by so fast I did not even noticed it. The spa attendant provided me with clean robe, drinking water and plastic bag for wet bikini.
I felt so pampered and relaxed. I wanted to leave extra tip for an attendant and asked at the reception how to do so. To my surprise I was told that spa has “no tip” policy and that is why you are asked to pay before you go into the spa. The idea is that you can relax and not to worry about paying extra and how much to tip.
It was a very pleasant, relaxing and amazing experience.
